GRATITUDE
I believe that gratitude is one of the fastest ways to come back to center, to transcend the ego and to remember your essence, your true nature.
We all have something in our lives to be grateful for, even if you are not grateful for your own life, there is something you can find to be grateful for. I encourage you to find that thing, or those things, and to focus on them until your heart overflows with gratitude. The more gratitude you can feel in your heart, the more open your heart becomes. The more open your heart, the forgiveness, the more compassion, the more inner peace will spring forth.
So I invite you to take a minute to just relax for a second. Relax and allow all the tension of the day to just melt away. And allow your mind to find something you are grateful for. Let the feeling of gratitude fill your heart, just allow yourself to feel good right now. And now find something else to be grateful for. And allow that feeling of gratitude to fill your heart. And then find one more thing to be grateful for and allow that energy of gratitude to come into your heart and fill you up. Now imagine that the color of gratitude is your favorite color. See your heart filled with the radiant color and see the color overflowing, just pouring forth from your heart. Now think of all the people in your life and all the situations in your life, good and those that appear not so good. Take a deep breath in and release this vibrant color of gratitude from your heart into every situation in your life and upon every person in your life. Just allow yourself to be grateful for what is right now, without judgment, just allow it to be because you say it is so. If any resistance shows up, simple tell it you are grateful for it as well and allow it to pass as you continue on pouring out gratitude to all that is in your life. Notice how when your life is filled with gratitude there is no room for anything other than inner peace. Enjoy this sense of inner peace now and know that you can have this at anytime at any moment by filling your heart with gratitude and allowing it to pour over your life. Take another deep breath in, and gently bring your awareness back into your room. And as you bring your awareness back, think about what Melody Beattie has to say about Gratitude:
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
Without gratitude there can be no inner peace. Our definition of inner peace is a sense of well-being, a sacred space you dwell in deep inside of yourself where you are so connected to your creator that nothing outside of you can move you. How do you get to that place of being unmoveable? How do you not let circumstances, and situations set you off, trigger you, take you off balance?
We have a few core concepts that we believe in and all of our teachings are based on these concepts:
1. There is a powerful force in the universe that we call God. You can call it Spirit, Universal Intelligence, Life Force Energy, Jesus, Jehovah, Buddha, Atman, whatever name you desire. If you don't have a God, find something to believe in that is more powerful than your ego or you will never find inner peace. Your ego's job is to keep you striving for balance, not living it.
2. That powerful force created us in its image and likeness, we are all spiritual beings having a human experience.
3. As spiritual beings, we create our own realities through our thoughts, feelings and actions.
4. That reality comes into existence first as a spiritual impulse. Then a thought is formed, a feeling comes from the thought and we then take action based on what we think and how we feel and this produces physical manifestation of the experiences in our daily lives.
5. That we can change our lives by changing the way we think and feel about certain things.
If you think the world is doomed, and you act accordingly, you will experience your own personal world filled with doom. If enough people think and feel the same way, we manifest the doom and gloom we are experiencing in our world today. Our purpose for establishing the Inner Peace Circles is to help people to start to take charge of the world they are creating for themselves by shifting the way they think and feel about themselves and the world around them. If enough people can see a better world, we can start to create a better world.
If you are willing to take responsibility for creating the experiences in your life, you will find much inner peace awaiting you as you continue with our work. You don't have to know how right now, you only need to be willing to take charge of your life through the teleclasses and workshops we offer, by working with a life coach and/or spiritual counselor/teacher, by praying, meditating, affirming the truth, and visualizing/seeing peace. There are many ways you can do the work if you are willing.
So lets go back to how do you attain a sense of inner peace where outside circumstances don't move you? How do you attain and maintain that sense of well-being at all times?
This is done by being spiritually grounded and rooted in Affirmative Prayer, Meditation, Positive Affirmation and Visualization. These are our 4 basic tools for cultivating inner peace.
Affirmative Prayer: Prayer is usually thought of as a request to God for something. Affirmative Prayer is acknowledging that God has already given you all that you need or desire. “Ask and you shall receive,” “knock and the door shall be opened.” God knows all of your needs and the answer to the prayer is within the prayer itself. So during this month of Thanksgiving, we ask that you simply learn to say Thank you God for ______ and you complete the sentence. This is the prayer of gratitude. Speak as if it is already so. This is affirmative prayer. We would prefer that you Thank God first thing each morning for waking up, all throughout the day and at night for the day that has gone before you.
Meditation: Meditation can take on many different forms and there is no right or wrong way to meditate. For the purpose of becoming more spiritually grounded and rooted in peace, we ask that you sit with yourself. This is the space you create for God to speak to you, to guide you and direct you. We prefer that you sit in the morning so that you receive guidance and direction for your day. If you are new to meditation, just sit without expectation. For this month, we only ask that you develop the habit of sitting for 10 to 15 minutes each day, just to get the body use to being still. Don't beat yourself up if you can't sit still, just do the best you can and realize you will get better with time as the mind becomes more trained to slow down and relax. Just make your divine appointment with God and keep it each day. Impatience only comes with expectation. Just allow yourself to be still, nothing more to do.
Positive Affirmation: We have to know that our words have power and what you say to yourself, what you affirm, becomes your reality. You must start affirming that which you want, and stop giving so much attention and energy to those things you don't want. So positive self-talk is essential to having peace of mind. Start watching your thoughts and create positive affirmations around the things you find challenging. If you are having an experience of lack of financial flow in your life, an example of a positive affirmation would be: Financial abundance flows into my life with grace and ease. Repeating this simple statement can calm you down, open you up to receiving more abundance and counter any negative mind chatter. Create and practice a new affirmation for yourself each day.
Visualization: And last, but not least, is Visualization. A wise person once said, If you can see it, you can be it. Until you can image a peaceful lifestyle for yourself, you will not be able to create it because you won't even think it's possible. So begin today to start seeing your life different, start to see how you would show up in the world if you had more inner peace, if you were more centered and connected. Start to activate your imagination in a way that empowers your world rather than destroying it by imaging all that could possibly go wrong. End each day with a visualization. After you have said your prayers for the evening, allow your mind to drift off to sleep as you daydream about the peaceful lifestyle you are creating in your mind. Take these visions into a deep sleep and allow your subconscious mind to work on it as you sleep. Do this every single night and you will be amazed at how your life will start to shift. Remember to only visualize/see that which you want to create. Make it real by imagining if your life was more peaceful, where would you live, who would you be living with, what sounds would be heard around you, what things would you see, what smells would you smell. Allow all of your senses to get involved as you drift off to sleep.
So with these tools for inner peace and the words on gratitude, I'd like to leave you with these beautiful words by an unknown author.
